A Tribute to a Wonderful Ewe - In Memory of Daisy

Border Leceister/Cotswold Ewe - Daisy

This is Daisy just before she was sheared this spring(2011) Daisy was half cotswold (Sunstar) and half Border Leicester (Triple R farm ram). She had a wonderful fleece and always placed well at the WNC Mountain State Fair sheep show.

One year she and Bailey won the reserve grand champion ewe. In addition she had a calm, gentle disposition. Shortly after shearing this year she developed some growths in her neck that eventually spread below her ears. Thinking it might be something contagious I isolated her, treated her with antibiotics and watched to see if anything absessed. When cultures and blood tests came back negative and she didn't improve with antibiotics I knew that she most likely had tumors. I would let her out in the barnyard and she would rest in the grass or the horse arena, barely eating. Although it was hard to say good bye I couldn't let her suffer any longer. The necropsy confirmed lymphosarcoma everywhere. I had made the best decision. I miss you Daisy!

Hobby Knob Octavia

Meet Hobbyknob Octavia. She is the 2008 lamb of Painted Rock Gabrielle. She is the busy body of the flock. Octavia has 2 nicely balanced horns and the eye patches of her sire Hosea. Her fleece is dense. I will try and loosen that up next year with a ram with looser more open locks.

Sire: Painted Rock Hosea
Dam: Painted Rock Gabriell

Cotswold Ewe - Sunstar

Sunstar is my one and only 100% Cotswold ewe. She has an open, lustrous fleece, good mothering instinct and as true to the Cotswold breed is very gentle and tame. I had planned on more colored Cotswold ewes but it seems I found some other sheep I like also so I had to draw the line. She was a triplet but has never had more than twins.

Sire: Critter Crossing C02736
Dam: Twin Maples C01574

Cotswold Ewe - Turtle

Turtle is the ewe twin of Sunstar and Mohegan. I have decided to keep her for now as her mother is 7 and she is the first purebred ewe offspring.
Her twin ram is on my sales page..

Sire: Mohegan
Dam: Sunstar

Sire: Mohegan
Dam: Percy

Squirt is a triplet from my very first ewe, Percy. Am glad I did as Percy has since died. She has a beautiful, fine silver fleece. Squirt is bred for the first time bred to a Coriedale ram.

Coopworth - Coop

Coop

This is Coop the Coopworth wether. He is getting up there in age but always produces a nice large white fleece. Even at 10 his fleece made some wonderful yarn and batts. He was one of my first sheep so
he is growing old here. He always feels lite as a feather when that fleece comes off!

Moorit Coriedale and half Cotswold - Stella

Stella - DOB 3/09

Sire: Riddick(wellspring farm)
Dam: Squirt

Placed 1st in natural colored fine wool aged ewe class at SAFF. Although Stella has Cotswold from her dam she is expressing the fine crimp of the moorit corriedale. Her fleece is brown on the tips but dark chocolate on the inside. She only has to be sheared once a year! Yea! You can see her ram at www.wellspringfarm.com. Since her fleece is so different from all the others, I have decided to keep her in the flock for the time being. Stella is registered with the Natural Colored Wool Growers Association.
